"I was using #3 but not only did it smell like a bottle of wine, it didn't feel quite strong enough for my oily skin. I like this version better, clean smell, clean feeling, just nothing but clean. I was afraid it was going to dry out my skin due to other reviews, but my skin is a real oil slick where its sticky to the touch, so this clarifying lotion keeps me refreshed 24/7, I use it along with the Oily Skin Liquid Facial Soap and DDMG and the Acne Solutions Makeup"

Don't fear the alcohol

"I have very oily skin, I mean wash my face 4 times a day oily. I have always heard to avoid products with alcohol, so I was surprised when I saw it listed as an ingredient.

I have faithfully followed many brands for months even years, and I'm new to Clinique, but with all new brands I just went with it. To my surprise, it wasn't over drying nor did it make me oilier. I didn't feel any sting but my skins not that sensitive. I've found it to be the most effective toner for my face.
I tend to have flakey skin even with my oily skin. This toner smooths away all the flakes and picks up a lot of excess dirt left behind by my facial wash.

Bottom line, it doesn't seem that an alcohol based toner is as bad a people say as long as you follow up with a good moisturizer, which even us oily girls need to use anyway.

So far the regimen I have been given has done a better job then the high end products I have shelled out for in the past.

Give it a Shot. IMHO

oh BTW I'm down to washing my face just twice a day! not just because of the toner, but the full line I was sent home with.
Also so that this review isn't all hugs and kisses. This toner will not really clean out your pores. I recommend exfoliating and then using a magnified lighted makeup mirror and gently extract blackheads first. The toner will help to keep them clean"

"I really like this toner - it does not burn my skin, does not over-dry, and really feels like it is doing a good job removing excess dirt from my face. I use it once a day in the evening, it is cooling, and the level 4 toner is great for my oily skin. A good addition to any skin care routine."

The Clarifying lotion is a staple

"My mother first introduced me to the clarifying lotion when I was 18 years old and my skin was so oily that I had to was my face to remove oil several times daily. It was a real oil slick. Regular use of the clarifying lotion 4 really cuts down on the oilyness and makes my skin look very fresh and dewy rather than oily. I no longer use it daily rather a 2-3 times week and still get the same wonderful effect I got 20 years ago when I was using it twice daily.

This is a life changing product!"

A toner that doesn't burn!

"I was hesitant to use the clarifying lotion toner twice a day as I have very sensitive skin and any toner I've used in the past has left me with red, blotchy, and dry patches. I cannot begin to explain how gentle and effective this is. My pores have been refined and my very oily skin is kept under control. This isn't harsh and drying at all. This, along with the foaming cleanser and moisturzing gel, has helped transform my skin in just 3 weeks. The tiny surface bumps on my forehead are completely gone and my skin is more even. I am beyond impressed!"

"I have a lot of serious breakouts and pretty oily skin. Products I have used that are very similar to this usually dried out my skin so much that it would flake. At first I was using #3 combination oily and it worked well, but the #4 oily skin works even better, plus it doesn't dry out my skin like other products."

"I have combo oily skin but I use number 4 because I use benzoyl peroxide which increases cell turnover. This is so good for oily skin. It doesn't dry your skin out and helps get rid of flakes. It allows you to use less moisturizer to cover a larger area."

"I have used the clarifying lotion for years and am so happy wi the results. I am always getting compliments on my skin. At 75 my complexion looks like a 40 year old. I do not have a wrinkle one and have not had a breakout in years. I also use clinique soap (for years too)."

Permanent product in my skin care regimen

"I love this toner. I have oily, sensitive skin. And this toner cleans deep down and leaves my face feeling refreshed without overdrying it. It also keeps breakouts at bay because of how well it gets rid of excess makeup/dead skin cells. This well definitely be a permanent part of my skin care regimen."

I love this toner

"I have used the product for a month along with the liquid facial soap and the moisturizing gel. I added the exfoliating scrub 3 to 4 times a week and have noticed a huge difference in my skin. The toner does not dry my skin out. My blackheads have almost disappeared. My skin is clearer and smoother than it has been in years!"
