"I have a love/hate relationship with Touch Base for Eyes. For the 30+ years that I've been a loyal customer, for the life of me I can't figure out why they can't get this product quite right. While it lives up to the promises of being an excellent primer or canvas for eye shadows and that it lasts all day, why can't Clinique perfect this product so it doesn't dry out? Is it faulty packaging or the product itself? Unless I'm mistaken, I don't believe this product used to dry out as much as it does now. When I used a mauve-type of shade (I forget the name, maybe Moonlight Mauve, but it's been discontinued) it NEVER dried out. About 15 years ago I forgot to snap the lid completely closed and didn't use it for several days, and that began its demise! Ok, so I blamed myself for that one. But since then it begins drying out about 1/3-1/2 of the way of usage. This isn't right. I'll get ticked swear off this product, but then I'll feel the lure of what truly is a great product WHEN it's creamy (!), and I'll break down a year or two later and buy it again. But no more! Clinique should resolve this problem. There are way too many customers who have voiced complaints. I suggest revamping the formula or packaging until you get it right. Also, I agree that it should come in a matte finish, especially for those of us who are getting older and don't want the shimimery look. While enough matte eye shadow over it can dimish some of the shimmer, it's too much work. In conclusion, Touch Base for Eyes is a great product IF it isn't dried out! Clinique, please get it right, and you'll have much higher sales for this one product alone. Isn't that what it's all about for a company?!"

Great base

Pros: long lasting, great base for makeup, evens out skin color

Cons: you have to keep the foil

"I agree with others that this base cream dries out before you can use it all. I've started keeping the foil, and putting it back on between each use, and that takes care of that problem. And with that, it becomes a must-have product. It stays on all day/night for me, and gives a nice foundation for eye makeup to adhere to. Sometimes I just use the skin-colored color with light makeup to even out the skin coloring. I've been using it for years, and it will be a sad day if it is ever discontinued. I haven't found anything to work as well."

Dries up in container before product is gone!

"I have tried this three times now and all of the containers, the product dried up before it was half way gone! I have very long nails so I have to use a brush to put this on and when you use a brush it hardens the product and is no good anymore which is a waste of money!I will not buy this product again,. Time to try to find something else which is sad because is does work very well."

"I've been using this in both Canvas and Nude Rose for about 10 years. Since I use two colors, they tended to dry out. But I started leaving the silver foil cover over the cream and have not had a problem since. It's a great product."

"I thought that a cream like this would be nice
to apply just with a fingertip.
Then I came to find out that it dries out!
I went to use it and suddenly there were
chunks of shadow falling apart.
There was no way that this product worked for me. Dry as a bone."

"I purchased this in petal shimmer. It's a frosty, pink with gold shimmer. It's beautiful. I'm very fair and wanted something that I could apply fast. It brightens up the eyes, gives a Dewey appearances when used as a highlighter. It stays on until you scrub it off. If you went swimming it would stay on. Didn't cause breakouts. A little goes a long way, go light on eyes and you won't get creasing. Very potent color. Love it! Goes well with other makeup."

Pros: neutral colors go w/a wide range of shadow choices, pretty shimmer, does exactly what it says it does

Cons: does not last in package, becomes increasingly more difficult to apply the, longer you own it. (as it slowly dries out.)

"All of the reviews raving about how great a product this is are true- it does do exactly what it is supposed to do. It makes your eye shadow colors pop, and last all day long. I like the shimmer. I feel like it brightens my eyes nicely, helps tp create a 'wide eyed' look.
HOWEVER, The major problem with this product that I just cannot get past any longer is that it dries out WAY too quickly. I have bought this product at least 6 times over the years and have not once been able to use up even half of it before it dries out in the container. I have even tried keeping it inside its own small ziplock baggie to keep it fresh and it still dried out before I could use it. I don't know if the packaging design is bad, or if the formula is, but IT IS NOT MADE TO LAST. I love Cinique products, and love this one- for a few weeks.
In summary, don't buy this product unless you don't mind throwing at least half of it away. I work hard for my money, its not worth it for me."

"I went in for a consultation a few days ago, and was thankfully introduced to this product that I would've never tried on my own. It is amazing! Not only does it go on easily, stay on all day, and not crease...it also stops eye-shadow falloff from getting all over your face! Before I would always have to wipe away excess powder that fell onto my cheeks, and sometimes even have to touch up makeup from the mess...NEVER AGAIN! SO excited about this product. I can't stop raving about it!"

"Okay so here's the deal, this does what it says it will do, t makes your eyeshadow last without creasing and makes it looks more vibrant. Unlike a lot of cream eyeshadows this not only create a base for your shadow to stick to it also serves as a primer preventing creasing. It can also be`worn on its own as a shadow since it dries down to a powder for days when you just want a wash of color. Overall its a very good product but and there is a BUT I've got a couple of issues with it. 1. there's not a lot of product, other brands have similiar products with similar prices but you get much more.
2. it dries out fast. Because of the cream to powder formula these tend to dry up quickly making them much more difficult to use.
3. and this is the big one, they only come in shimmer. Clinique does not make a single matte primer! WHY? They make matte eyeshadow, f I put a matte shadow of a shimmer base it will appear shimmery. My mom's favrite brand is Clinique but shimmer draws attention to wrinkle in older women. i wanted to by her an eye base that could work under matte shadows for her birthday and clinique had nothing. it seems like a skintoned base that can be used under ANY eyeshadow is kind of a basic thing every brand should have. I was dis appointed that I had to get her a different brand :("

"the 'touch base' is another perfect clinique product, not as a base for shadow but as an eye shadow by itself. i loved the now-gone shades such as 'linen' and 'brown smudge,' as well as 'canvas.' all were easy to apply, comfortable, stayed on the eyelid smoothly and uncreased. i do not like powders, especially near my eyes. some of it always scatters onto the eye area. (i do not like powder blushes for the same reason.)

i wish the former shades of touch base would come back. other than 'canvas' all the current shades have shimmer in them. the soft touch of color, without sparkle, is much prettier and useable day and night."
